Best performance with all parameters (pH, temp, turbidity, chl-a)
ML Model & Performance
XGBoost model for accurate eutrophication risk prediction.
Eutrophication Risk Prediction
The prototype buoy measures pH, temperature, turbidity and dissolved oxygen. The model comparison documented below also includes chlorophyll-a as an input. These are distinct configurations; the reported scores are not a field-validation result.
ChitoNet uses a XGBoost machine learning model to predict eutrophication risk based on water quality parameters. The model analyzes real-time sensor data from pH, temperature, turbidity, and chlorophyll-a levels to provide early warning of algal bloom conditions.
Unlike traditional monitoring approaches that detect problems after they occur, our ML model is designed to identify risk patterns before visible algal blooms appear, supporting earlier intervention. A field-validated warning lead time has not been established.
The model was trained on a comprehensive dataset of 268,361 samples combining real-world measurements and synthetically generated data to ensure robust generalization across diverse water conditions.
